Chance at Auroras

Good morning everyone, I have some news! The solar storm has been progressing slowly. The double tap from two days ago is expected to reach us tonight. There’s a cloud system to our west. It seems to be moving south. The Weather Channel predicts partly clear skies in the early evening. Eastern Northern Michigan and the west side of the Upper Peninsula are the clearest, though this changes by nightfall. Still, I suggest heading to the lake shores, as the skies over the Lakes will stay the clearest. It will still be in the teens today. If you go out, make sure you are using hand warmers, foot warmers, and lots of layers. I would not travel far for this, it is a minor shot at best. It is still winter and we will still have a few months of this cloudy weather hanging about.

In other news, the south this week had storms akin to what we get here in the north. Some places have never seen snow. This causes a mix of sheer panic and wonder for those who have never had to deal with it. Ireland and parts of the UK are getting hit with a rather nasty storm. Winds topping from 90 miles per hour triggered rare stay-at-home orders accompanied by rain, sleet, and some snow accumulation. . Storm has knocked out power to over 93000 homes. Rail service has been canceled and some 1070 flights had to be canceled. A 6.4 earthquake ripped through Twain yesterday, with the power of two atomic bombs. fortunately, so far only 27 minor injuries have been reported. Kanlaon Volcano in Philliapeans is emitting ash clouds roughly 200 meters in the air. Bárðarbunga volcano has more than 130 earthquakes the largest of which was 5.1. This volcano has produced the largest eruption in the last century. This Behemoth volcano is about 120 miles across and stands 6598 above sea level. Sakurajima Volcano in Japan has had its 11th eruption.

Now some of you might wonder why we are mentioning volcanoes. The answer is simple. If these volcanic ash and dioxide rise into the troposphere, they will linger there. They will shield our Planet from the sun. You guessed enough in the troposphere and we won’t see auroras. It can also significantly cool the planet.
