Native Photo Project
Welcome, Native Community members. Some of you may know me, some may not. Let me introduce myself , I am Peggy Sue. I live in Traverse City. Just for clarity sake should anyone want to know. I am by heritage I am more or less a Mutt, I am Dal Raita, Pictish, Scottish, Welsh, Norman, with ties to nearly every country in Europe… and way do there about 7 generations back. I recently found a bit of Delaware and Launapi for flavor, but not enough blood quantum that I would ever claim Native Heritage. For Twenty years, have traveled with friends to powwows. Have greatly enjoyed those that have advised and guided me as there really aren’t an traditional teachers of my own nation here. In appreciation I have done photography to share with the community and with the thought of preserving history. Recently a few tribal members requested after learning I make sublimation products that I make my Native photography available so they could purchase them on products they could treasure. I would love to do that as service to the community that has been so kind to me.
I do take this seriously and my first priority is going to be making sure I can secure your personal image from misuse. I am thinking password protecting website and requiring some form of registration, Just so I know if some Non Native is trying to get products they shouldn’t. My second goal with website is to historically match names, tribes and faces with everyone I have photographed over they years for historical preservation so that your tribes a can access images for their historical preservation. So I am thinking I would love a place on that website for you share stories, information you want historically kept for future generations. I am open here for community feed back and what you think should be done, what products you want offered and services. Also on how to handle if you don’t want anyone tribal to have access to your photos, or have them removed form online forum is another issues that we need to figure out. The largest issue, that also concerns me is who I leave in charge of this should I pass, tribal counsels love to hear your legal ideas.
Right now I have everything loosely organized on hard drive by Powwow and year. Mainly Grand Rapids, Hart, Peshawbestown and I have been Mt. Pleasant. You are welcome to reach out and see if I have images of you and request products. As I get Powwow Requests of my schedule of you want portraits done. Right now I know Will Be at Grand Rapids and Hart in Sept. Hart is ideal powwow to catch me for family portraits it is slower and easier for me to step to the side to pose a family.
How to Make Sure I Attend Your Powwow
Do fact I am now handicap I am only doing powwows by bookings. This way I am can make sure of handicapped accommodations, make sure you reserve the prime photography spot for me to sit, etc. There maybe so small fees if you are distant from Traverse City to cover hotel and travel. Powwows can reach out to me through email if you wish for me to attend your event. I generally supply 1000-2000 images from your event, I attempt to get everyone at the powwow when I am booked for the event. When you book me then you have the opportunity to get me list of your must haves such as Contest winners, special elders, etc. In the future I may be able to bring additional photographers for a fee to have them shooting more formal portraits. Powwow committee can supply me with Portable hard drive and I will supply copies of all footage.
I do offer service of taking photos and turn them into masterpiece portraits. This is billed by 15 increments and based on time to takes me to do. Please note I can not do with all photos but am willing to try.
