Latest News and Forecast for Feb 27th.
Early this morning we achieved a KP 5.67 Aurora Event. This activity comes from a M class flare that happened on the Feb 25th. It was not a direct hit but a nice graze. We did have a Coronal hole earth facing and that stream will be hitting us Thursday through Saturday. Though it is expected to be at a bit lower KP level. It really isn’t going to matter much as most of the country, save Texas is experiencing cloud cover. Might be a slight chance in location going into early morning in the first. Sunspot #4006, located in the northern hemisphere, has developed a beta-gamma magnetic configuration and…
NASA Just Release New Data on May 2025 Storm.
Many of us recall the Mother’s Day Storm of 2024. This was one of the most significant storms to impact our planet in recent history. It gave us brilliant auroras in colors we don’t often see. NASA this week just released a study about that storm with a significant finding. Van Allen Belt is an area of radiation and energetic particles from solar winds that circle our equator. These belts are held in place by earth’s magnetic fields. NASA studies them because they can be significant danger to our Astronauts and satellites. Occasionally in the past they have changed from two to three tube like bands around the plant. How…

This weekend presents exciting opportunities for aurora enthusiasts. Those tired of cloudy skies might finally get to see a display of shimmering lights.
January Forecast
Currently, we're still experiencing winter conditions, which means much of the country has reduced chances of witnessing Auroras due to weather. Although a few weather breaks are expected, it's uncertain whether they will bring clear skies.
Chance at Auroras
Good morning everyone, I have some news! The solar storm has been progressing slowly, and the double tap from two days ago is expected to reach us tonight. There's a cloud system to our west, but it seems to be moving south, and the Weather Channel predicts partly clear skies in the early evening
Forecast for 2025
Most of the country is expected to face a series of storms and some of the year's coldest temperatures. Many southern states are also bracing for hazardous weather conditions.
Safety in Aurora Hunting
With the advancements in cell phone and camera technology, capturing images in low-light conditions has become more accessible, leading to a surge in dark sky photography enthusiasts. Consequently, the number of people enjoying auroras has quadrupled over the past decade. Unfortunately, this has resulted in crowded parks, increasing the likelihood of accidents. If too many incidents occur in parks at night, authorities might consider closing public areas for safety reasons. To prevent this, we need to establish and follow common-sense guidelines. These measures will protect us and those around us, fostering a safer and more enjoyable environment.Replace selected b Our collective enjoyment relies on each of us being responsible citizens.…
