Don’t Get Hopes Up

Don’t get hopes up to high for this particular storm. I know we are all hoping to get a good storm. Unfortunately, so far I have heard this is a positive BZ. Which means south pole is more likely to auroras.

At the moment we have coronal facing us and several smaller ones. The large coronal hole is listed as 6+. The one behind in on the north is a -5. I think we might get more out of the back coronal hole. I am not seeing anything promising about the few filaments facing us. We do have some sunspots moving around the back side of the sun and we will have to see what they they become as they rotate around.

Historically it is this time of year that we slide into a quiet period. We do a typically get a few storms through November, December, January and February but not a lot and few are record breaking. Also this type of the year we are pretty cloudy, and have less of chance to see what storms are very slim do to winter weather.

Though this year with El Nino it is any ones guess, since this is strongest El Nino on record. I was predicted to be warmer and dry in North and Midwest region. However there is a cold patch by Washington and Oregon that could change weather. We also have to pay attention to the polar vortex which is behaving oddly and may split in Two. If it does that it can reverse our wind patterns and that drastically change the forecast. Bring in heavy snow storms by the first part of December. This fits with some Wooley worms I have seen this year. Wooley worms are pointing to the hardest part of winter hitting early this year, fading down to mild winter and one quick hard patch at the end of year. Might be a long winter, guess it depends on who weather changes.

We came into this maximum cycle fast and we seem to be going out of quickly as well. I don’t think we will get a second peak but I could be wrong. This could mean we have five year of no sunspots and low activity. There is a pattern of several calmer cycles followed by four large solar cycles. So I predict next cycle maybe similar to this one.

This does not mean sit back and do nothing! This is best time of year to work with man made light with Halloween and Christmas decorations out there to have fun with. Over the winter you can be working on learning new editing. We can also work on astronomy. Less auroras still leaves us with lots of adventures.

Thanks to my Dad we have found one and he is helping me with the bulk of cost. This will handle rough ground, and maybe light sand. I don’t think it will do really deep loose sand, but this helps.
